Method

My Approach

I don’t start with the dashboard. I start with the evidence.

The same sequence runs through every determination I carry out — a claim, a recovery programme, a schedule review. It moves deliberately from what can be proven to the decision it supports, and it is why the results hold when they are tested.

Evidence of thinking
Problem

A complex programme-control question — a claim, a recovery, a schedule review.

Method

Evidence → Baseline → Progress → Logic → Critical Path → Cause → Effect → Forecast → Decision.

Evidence

The programme and the contemporaneous record — not the narrative.

Decision

The position the evidence actually supports.

Outcome

A defensible conclusion that holds when it is tested.

01

Evidence

↓

Start with the record — programmes, progress, correspondence, instructions. What can be shown, not what is asserted.

02

Baseline

↓

Establish the accepted, logic-linked programme everything is measured against. If the baseline is weak, everything downstream inherits the weakness.

03

Progress

↓

Test whether reported progress is real and measurable — planned versus actual, earned versus planned, the same way every cycle.

04

Logic

↓

Interrogate the network — relationships, constraints, calendars. A schedule held together by hard constraints cannot react to the truth.

05

Critical path

↓

Find the path actually driving completion, and watch how it migrates. The path the software reports is not always the one running the job.

06

Cause

↓

Tie each event to a demonstrable cause, on the driving path, at the time it bit — cause and effect shown, not assumed.

07

Effect

↓

Isolate the effect on completion — net of float, mitigation and the contractor’s own delay. Days that reach the milestone, not days that felt painful.

08

Forecast

↓

Rebuild a forecast that reflects what is actually happening — honest dates leadership can plan against.

09

Decision

Resolve it all into the decision in front of management now: intervene, accept, escalate, or hold.

Evidence → Baseline → Progress → Logic → Critical Path → Cause → Effect → Forecast → Decision

Where it leads

The results are the method, applied.

This sequence is what let a 291-day claim resolve to an approved 64 days, and a 426-day position reduce to 91 — traced event by event, on the critical path, from evidence to decision. It is set out as a framework under Integrity-Led Project Controls, and demonstrated in the case studies and forensic delay analysis.
