Route 2020 extended the Dubai Metro Red Line toward the Expo site — a major rail programme with the twin pressures of a fixed opening and a live operating network that could not be disrupted.

The controls challenge

Rail programmes concentrate risk at their interfaces: civils, systems, testing and commissioning all converge. As Lead Scheduler within the Jacobs team, I integrated contractor schedules, scrutinised critical-path and interface milestones, and gave leadership an evidence-based view against the opening date.

The insight

On rail, the schedule is only as strong as its interfaces. Controls earn their keep by making the handovers between disciplines impossible to ignore.
